3.1 PC-BSD(R) のインストールを開始する

PC-BSD(R)を開始するためには､ブートメディアを挿入して､システムをブートします｡ コンピュータがインストーラではなく、既存のオペレーティングシステムで起動した場合､コンピュータのBIOSプログラムを確認して､インストールメディアの含まれているドライブがブート順の最初となるようにします。 BIOSの設定変更を保存し､再起動します｡

To begin the PC-BSD(R) installation, insert the boot media and boot the system. If the computer boots into an existing operating system instead of the installer, reboot and check your computer's BIOS program to ensure that the drive containing the installation media is listed first in the boot order. Save your BIOS changes and reboot.

数秒後､ PC-BSD(R) が読み込まれたことを意味する､一連のコード行が表示されます。 その後間もなく､図3.1aのような画面が表示されます｡

After a couple of seconds, a series of lines of code will scroll down the screen, meaning that PC-BSD(R) is being loaded. Soon after, you should see a screen similar to Figure 3.1a:

ここでは､7つのオプションがあります。

1. Boot [default]: 全ての標準オプションを有効にして､インストールプログラムを開始します｡10秒以内に他の何かを選択しない場合の､デフォルト(既定値)です。
2. Boot with ACPI enabled: 電源管理を有効にします｡特定のBIOSやノートパソコンでは、便利でしょう｡
3. Boot in Safe Mode: #2オプションを選択しても､ハードウエアの検出時点でハングアップしてしまうようなインストール時にはこのオプションを選んで下さい｡このオプションは､(DMAを使わない)PIOモードにし、全てのIDEハードディスクやCD ROMドライブのキャッシュを無効化し､(今ではほんの少しのシステムにしか無い)EISAスロットの検出を無効化し､(i386システムでは)ACPIとAPICを無効にします｡
4. Boot with verbose logging: ブート時により詳細なメッセージを見たい場合に選択します｡インストール時にハングアップし､どのハードウエアが問題となっているのかトラブルシューティングするために有効です｡
5. Boot to emergency console: ベテランユーザが、致命的なシステム不良のを解決するために､このオプションを使います｡
6. Boot with X in VESA mode: インストールプログラムが、ビデオドライバを読み込めなかった場合､コンピュータを再起動し､このオプションを選択します｡インストーラは､ビデオカードのあるシステムでは動くと思われるVESAモードで起動します。
7. Escape to loader prompt: ベテランユーザが、カーネルの変更やカーネルモジュールの読込を変更したりするような、詳細なオプションを設定するために選択します｡

エンターキーを押すか､5と7以外のどれかオプションを選択すると､ PC-BSD(R)はグラフィカルインストーラで起動するでしょう。

There are 7 options to choose from:

1. Boot [default] : starts the installation program with all standard options enabled. This is the default if you do not select anything else within 10 seconds.
2. Boot with ACPI enabled: this enables power management, which may be useful for certain BIOS's and laptops.
3. Boot in Safe Mode: select this option if the installation still hangs when probing your hardware and option #2 did not help. It will boot with a forced PIO mode (disabling the use of DMA), disable write caching for all IDE hard drives and CD ROM drives, disable the probing of EISA slots (as very few systems have them), and (on i386 systems) disables the use of ACPI and APICs.
4. Boot with verbose logging: select this option if you would like to see more detailed messages during the boot process. This can be useful if you are troubleshooting which piece of hardware is causing the installation to hang.
5. Boot to emergency console: advanced users can use this option to fix critical system failures.
6. Boot with X in VESA mode: if the installation program is unable to load your video driver, restart the computer and select this option. The installer will default to VESA mode which should work on any system with a video card.
7. Escape to loader prompt: advanced users can select this option to perform advanced operations, such as changing kernels or loading kernel modules.

If you press enter or select any option other than 5 or 7, PC-BSD(R) will boot into the graphical installer.
